FIFA World Cup trophy in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The FIFA World Cup trophy, as part of its world tour to 88 countries, has arrived in the capital Dhaka from United Arab Emirates this afternoon.

The trophy was brought to Bangladesh, for the first time in the history of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, on a Danish chartered plane accompanied by FIFA delegates.

President of Bangladesh Football Federation Kazi Salahuddin along with representative of Coca-Cola, corporate partners of the FIFA, received the trophy at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 1:05pm (local time).

The trophy, which arrived with a top-class security protocol, will be taken to Bangabhaban, the official residence of the president, from the airport.
Later, it will be brought to the office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The trophy will be kept open for approximately 15,000 ticket-holders for two days on December 18 and 19 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium so that the visitors can take photos with the trophy.

The FIFA World Cup tour started from Rio de Janeiro on September 12 for a 267-day global trek.

After the three-day tour of Bangladesh, the trophy will leave for Bhutan on December 20.
