Dhaka,Bangladesh (BBN) - Denim makers want to create a new platform for ensuring a large ecosystem of the denim supply chain for global buyers.
The observation came at the first denim show concluded in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on March 2.

The Denimsandjeans.com Bangladesh show, in association with Denim Expert Limited, a Bangladesh-Netherlands joint venture at the Chittagong-based Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone (KEPZ), organisined two-day long show at Hotel Radisson in Dhaka.

Such exhibitions take place in Paris, Sweden, Shanghai, Hong Kong and the USA annually. And this was for the first time Bangladesh organized the exhibition.

“It was necessary to arrange such exhibition to build up confidence among the global buyers,” Mostafiz Uddin, managing director of the Denim Expert Limited, told BBN in Dhaka.

He said the exhibition will help to bring a positive impact on the country’s apparel particularly in denim sub-sector in the near future.

Bangladesh’s overall supply chain had been badly affected since October last year following frequent spells of blockade and shutdown, enforced by the opposition parties over the formation of a poll-time government in the South Asian country.

Mr. Mostafiz also said country heads, sourcing heads, merchandising managers and fashion analysts of more than 60 international retailers including Walmart, Charles Voegele, G-Star, H&M, C&A, Tesco, PVH and GAP participated in the exhibition.

A total of 25 companies from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Italy, Japan and the United States took part in the exhibition mainly to showcase denim pants, fabrics and latest accessories.

“We’re hopeful about getting fresh orders from the overseas buyers within a couple of months if the political stability continues in Bangladesh,” Abu Jafar Mohammed Sayeam, manager marketing of the Indian Arvind Limited, told BBN.

Echoing Arvind’s manager, Rupak Barua, manager—business development — of the Sri Lankan Brandix Textiles Limited, said such exhibition will help build up image of the country’s denim sub-sector across the world.

Bangladesh, the second largest producer of denim apparel, ships more than 185m pieces of denim jeans around the world, and has more than 5,600 factories concentrated around the capital Dhaka and the port city Chittagong.
