World Bank Pledges $160 million more for Padma Bridge

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The World Bank on Thursday pledged US$160 million more for the construction of the proposed Padma Bridge, raising the total loan assistance from the Bank for the project to $460 million.

Visiting World Bank vice president for South Asia region Isabel Guerrero gave the assurance in a meeting with Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain at his ministry in Dhaka, an official press statement said.

During the meeting, Guerrero also discussed various development projects under the Communications Ministry and said the World Bank would continue its support for Bangladesh’s communications sector.

Roads and Railway Division secretary AMM Ali Kabir, Bridges Division Secretary M Zahid Hossain, Bangladesh Railway Director General M Belayet Hossain were, among others, present on the occasion.
