Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– “A Drop of Love” got the ball rolling at the American International Film Festival (AIFF) in March this year, winning five awards — “Best Narrative Feature,” “Best Director”, “Best Actress”, “Best Animator”, and “Best Animation Feature” — at the festival.
The film had a world premiere in Dhaka on January 17, 2012.
Bangladeshi-born Canadian filmmaker Golam Mustofa has brought the Bengali expiate community one step further into the Western media as the movie has drawn much attention, The Daily Star, a local newspaper, reported.
“A Drop of Love” features a simple plot, interwoven stories, easy on the ear music and noteworthy animation. What sets the film apart is its alternating use of animation and live footage, as well as its unique emphasis on details, such as intense intellectual conversations and IT technical support calls.
The storyline revolves around a Caucasian university student, Joe, who falls for a Bangladeshi-Canadian girl named Afrin. Joe’s quirky charm and depth of knowledge on Bangladesh surprises Afrin; she momentarily forgets whom she was waiting for as she has fun conversing with Joe. However, their interpretations of the significance of their conversation turn out to be very different, leading to a big shock for Joe.
The movie features ten original songs. Talented vocalists — Donn Bradley, Kevin Faraci, PJ Parker, Rosy Shakil, John Korbel, Patty Mack and Dylan Nyroos — and composers trained at Berkley, Manhattan and London Music Schools, NYU, University of Michigan, and UCLA dedicated a year and a half to record the songs which will be released as a soundtrack CD in North America soon. Several Rabindra and Nazrul Sangeet have also been used in the film.
The film was written and directed by Golam Mustofa. Music is by Christopher Rinaman and Jonathan Rabson. The cast includes Marcel, Sabeena, Jarvis, Simon and others. Produced by Banzai Multimedia (Canada), the 1 hour and 11 minute long movie is in English and Bengali. Mustofa is seeking distribution for “A Drop of Love” simultaneously in North America and in Bangladesh.
