Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), bade farewell to three deputy governors (DGs) of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) and also accorded reception to four incumbent DGs of the country’s central bank.
The ABB bade farewell to former deputy governors – Nazrul Huda, Ziaul Hassan Siddiqui and Murshid Kuli Khan. It also accorded reception to Abul Quashem, Abu Hena Mohammad Razee Hassan, S K Sur Chowdhury and Nazneen Sultana.   
A farewell and reception program was held at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital Thursday evening.
“We’re revamping our supervision and monitoring aiming to minimize risks through introducing new strategies,” BB Governor Atiur Rahman said while speaking as the chief guest at the program. 
He also said said policy related instructions have been given at a ‘Town Hall’ meeting, an American English term given to an informal meeting, held in Chittagong on March 18 last. 
ABB Chairman Mohammad Nurul Amin presided over the function while former DG of the BB Nazrul Huda, incumbent DG Abu Hena Mohammad Razee Hassan and ABB Vice-Chairman Ali Reza Iftekhar also spoke on the occasion.
Speaking at the program former BB deputy governor Nazrul Huda said at this time of crisis maintaining public confidence in banking is extremely important.
 
“The banks should do their business without incurring excessive risks. The economy is in crisis. We must face the crisis with courage,” Mr Huda said, adding: “We have seen the danger of crisis. Now we have to exploit the opportunity from the crisis.”
“If we can exploit the opportunity, we will not only overcome the crisis but we will also be in the winner’s side of the crisis,” he noted.
The former central banker also suggested that the BB should fix up their priority between regulation and supervision. “We need both better regulation and better supervision but at this time quality supervision should be priority,” he noted.
Among others, Vice-Chairmen of the ABB Helal Ahmed Chowdhury and Abdul Mannan and its Secretary General Ishtiaque Ahmed Chowdhury were present at the function.
