Accidents kill 200 in Bangladesh during Eid holiday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - A total of 200 people was killed and more than 750 others injured in different accidents across the country during the Eid holiday, according to a report, released on Friday.
The report, prepared by Passengers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (PWAB), a private welfare organization, said the number of casualties came from 127 incidents of accidents that took place during the Eid holiday-- from July 1 to July 12.
Of the victims, 186 people were killed in road accidents, 11 in waterway accidents and three in railway accidents throughout the country, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, secretary general of the organization, said a press conference held at Jatiya Press Club in the capital on the day.
He also said the accidents occurred mainly for reckless driving. “Overloading, unfit vehicles and carelessness of the drivers are responsible for the accidents”.
The report was prepared based on different reports published on 14 national and regional newspapers and news agencies, according to the PWAB.
