ADB chief to arrive in Bangladesh Thursday

Manila, Philippines (BBN)- Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Haruhiko Kuroda will arrive in the capital, Dhaka on Thursday for a two-day visit to the South Asian country.

The Manila-based multi-lateral lending agency chief is expected to reaffirm ADB's strong support for the government’s economic and social development programs which have come under pressure from the global economic crisis, according to a press statement.

Along with meetings with top government leaders and representatives of civil society, Mr. Kuroda is also expected to make a field trip to an ADB-funded project where he will meet some of the project beneficiaries.

The ADB has a long and active presence in Bangladesh, partnering with the government on a range of poverty-alleviation and development projects.
