Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The interim government has appointed eminent economist Dr Ahsan H Mansur as the new governor of Bangladesh Bank for a four-year term.
The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance issued an official notification today confirming the appointment.
This significant development in the country's financial sector comes just four days after former central bank governor Abdur Rouf Talukder resigned on August 9, citing personal reasons, following protests from Bangladesh Bank officials.
Talukder's resignation occurred shortly after Sheikh Hasina stepped down as prime minister and fled the country in response to a mass uprising.
In preparation for Dr Mansur's appointment, the interim government abolished the previous age limit for the position, which was set at 67 years.
Dr Mansur now takes over as the 13th governor of Bangladesh Bank, succeeding Abdur Rouf Talukder.
