Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- ‘Amar Ekushey’ and International Mother Language Day was observed on Thursday across the country paying ardent tribute to the martyrs of glorious language movement in 1952 with a renewed demand for capital punishment of all war criminals.
 
In Rangpur, the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2013 was observed with a fresh vow for building a Razakar-free Bangladesh amid unprecedented enthusiasm among the common people, especially youngsters.
The divisional, district and police administrations, socio- cultural and professional organizations, political parties, private bodies, educational institutions and commoners observed the day through elaborate programs in a befitting manner.
In the morning, thousands of people of all ages in bare feet brought out a mourning procession singing ‘Amar Bhaiyer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami Ki Bhulite Pari.”
In Rajshahi, ‘Amar Ekushey’ and International Mother Language Day was observed in the city and its adjacent areas in a befitting manner paying rich tribute to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952.
Various political parities and socio-cultural and voluntary organizations and educational institutions observed the day with a renewed pledge for building a happy, prosperous, non- communal and Rajakar-free Bangladesh.
In Khulna, people from all walks of life paid rich tributes to the Language Movement martyrs who sacrificed themselves for their language in 1952.
When the clock passed zero hours around 12.01 am on Thursday, thousands of barefoot people thronged the foot of Shaheed Minar at Shaheed Hadis Park to pay homage to the martyrs.
In Chapainawabganj, ‘Amar Ekushey’ and International Mother Language Day was observed in a befitting manner in the district.
The day’s programmes started with placing wreaths at the foot of Central Shaheed Minar in the town. 
In Panchagarh, ‘Amar Ekushey’ and International Mother Language Day was observed Thursday with due solemnity and respect to the language martyrs.
