Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The 51st annual meeting of the Christian Co-operative Credit Union Limited was held on Friday at Batomoli Home’s Girls School field at Farm Gate in the capital Dhaka.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by local government, rural development and cooperatives state minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, cultural affairs state minister Promod Mankin, local lawmaker Asaduzzaman Khan and LGRD and cooperatives secretary Mihir Kanti Majumder.

The meeting was presided over by Credit Union’s president Arun Barnard D’ Costa.

Reverent Father Charles J Young founded The Christian Co-operative Credit Union Limited, Dhaka (in brief Dhaka Credit) on July 3, 1955. Dhaka Credit started with only 50 founding members but it has now turned into one of the biggest cooperative societies in Bangladesh in terms of membership as well as capital.

Now the credit union has 34,000 members and their capital is BDT 1.95 billion, the company said.

Mr. Nanak expressed his satisfaction with the Credit Union’s loan facilities for the Christian society as it helped the development of members of the community.

He also congratulated the union over its being awarded National Co-operative Award-2009.
