Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Another garment worker was killed in clashes with police on Sunday morning at Jamgorah in Saver while demonstrating in protest against the death of a fellow worker during the clash with law enforcers on Saturday.
The workers also took position on the Tongi-Ashulia road, halting traffic movement for an hour.
Witnesses said the workers of about 40 garment factories of the area took to the streets this morning, protesting the killing of their fellow worker on Saturday.
As police tried to disperse the workers from the road at about 11:00am, they got furious and pelted brickbats towards the law enforcers.
“At one stage police fired bullets on the garment workers, leaving one of them dead on the spot,” The Daily Star, a local newspaper, was quoted a spot account of the latest industrial unrest as saying.
Around 100 people, including 20 police, were also injured during the clash.
Additional Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police have been deployed in the area.
