Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Against the backdrop of the recent kidnaps, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has formed a 40-member anti-kidnapping squad to prevent abduction.

"We’ve formed a squad of 40 members headed by an additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of police to stop kidnapping and for arresting abductors," Monirul Islam, joint commissioner and spokesman for the DMP, told reporters in the capital Dhaka on Saturday.

It will also monitor activities of the criminals released from jails after securing bails, he said.

The squad, which started functioning from Saturday, will work round-the-clock, he said, adding that it has four hotline cell phone numbers: 01713-398327, 01713-398519, 01713-373214 and 01713-373216.

The police officer also requested all to contact with the squad through the cell phone numbers if they have any information about kidnapping. “Identity of the whistleblowers will be kept secret,” he assured.
