Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Seven female workers were killed and five others injured in a fire that raged through a readymade garment factory at Mohammadpur in the capital Dhaka Saturday afternoon, just two months after more than 111 killed in another apparel factory fire.
"Seven female workers were killed in stampede and suffocation caused by the fire," a local police official confirmed.
Eight units of firefighters from different stations brought the blaze under control after fighting for over an hour around 3:50pm, a senior official of the Fire Service and Civil Defence said, adding that  the fire broke out at the first floor of the two-story building of Smart Garments in Beribadh area around 2:40pm.
More than 111 people were killed and nearly 100 injured in a devastating fire that raged through Tazreen Fashion Ltd at Nishchintapur in Ashulia on November 24.
A four- member investigation team, headed by deputy director of Fire Brigade (operation), has been constituted to find out the reason behind the fire, another official of the Fire Service and Civil Defence said, adding that the committee has been asked to submit the report within three-working days.
