Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN)- Workers of a garment factory on Wednesday lay siege on the road at Jamal Khan area under Kotwali in the port city demanding payment of their dues.
Over 50 workers of JR Fashion Limited took to the streets on the busy intersection of Jamal Khan road near the factory at around 10 am. They demonstrated on the road and demanded for payment of their wages and allowances before Eid vacation.
Sewing supervisor Shipon Acharjee said that the authority was supposed to pay off two months' outstanding of the workers and three months' outstanding of the officers of the factory this morning as per earlier commitment.
He said the owner of the factory told earlier that their dues would be paid on July 31 but he failed to fulfill his commitments and finally it was decided that the payments would be made on August 15.
As the authority declined to pay their dues in the beginning hours on the day they stopped working and came out of the factory, witnesses said.
The workers however resumed work at around 11.20 am as the police and BGMEA leaders assured them of realizing the dues from the owner of the garment.
