Last updated: August 7, 2012
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh Garment Workers Unity Council (BGWUC) has urged the garment owners to pay their salary, bonus arrears before Ramadan 20 (August 9).
The RMG leaders made the demand at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday.
They also urged the garment owners not to lay off factories and retrench workers before Eid.
Secretary of the National Garment Federation Amirul Haq Amin said the workers and owners should reach a consensus through negotiations to avoid unrest in the sector. “The owners must not retrench, harass workers and close garment factories before Eid.”
Convener of Garment Workers Unity Sirajul Islam Ronny and central leader Kamrul Ahsan, among others, spoke on the occasion.
