Apparel workers demand salary, festival allowance before Eid

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The National Garment Workers’ Federation has called on the government to take steps for payment of salary and festival allowance of garment workers before August 25.

From a rally in front of the National Press Club on Saturday, leaders of the federation claimed some garment unit owners were threatening the workers not to claim festival allowance for the Eid-ul-Fitr or they would be sacked.

General Secretary of the federation Shafia Parvin and its leaders Mohammad Faroque Khan, Sultana Akhter, and Kabir Hossain, among others, addressed the rally chaired by federation president Amirul Haque Amin.

Meanwhile, United Federation of Garments Workers president Roy Ramesh Chandra at a discussion also demanded payment of the salary for August and festival allowance to the garment workers before the Eid.
