Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The prices of aromatic rice and spices increased at retail markets in the capital Dhaka in the last couple of days before the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha festival.
Traders said the prices of the items went up on the market as the wholesalers increased the prices ahead of Eid, which is to be celebrated in Bangladesh on Monday.
The prices of chinigura and kalijira increased by BDT 5.0 a kg and the items were selling at BDT 85-BDT 90 a kg and BDT 95-BDT 100 a kg respectively
The prices of spices, which are essential ingredients for cooking Eid feasts, increased further in the capital’s retail markets recently.
The prices of cumin, cloves, cardamom, black pepper and cinnamon increased by BDT 50-BDT 100 a kilogram.
Cumin was selling at BDT 450-BDT 500 a kg, cloves at BDT 1,700-BDT 1,800 a kg, cardamom at BDT 1,800 a kg, black pepper BDT 1,200-BDT 1,300 a kg and cinnamon at BDT 350-Tk 400 a kg.
The prices of onion and garlic remained high.

Both the local and imported garlic was selling at BDT 100 a kg and local onion was retailing at BDT 40-BDT 45 a kg while the imported item was selling at BDT 38 a kg.
The prices of cucumber increased by BDT 10 a kg and the item was selling at BDT 50-BDT 60 a kg.
The prices of lemon increased by BDT 15 a hali (four pieces) and the item was selling at BDT 35-BDT 40 a hali while the item was selling at BDT 20-BDT 25 a hali earlier.
