Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN)- Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) and Hajj Agency Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) have threatened to go for tough movement to press demand for launching direct hajj flights from Chittagong to Jeddah.
The leaders of the two associations came up with the warning while observing Bangladesh Biman Office ‘gherao program’ at Sholoshohor in the port city on Wednesday.
ATAB and HAAB jointly organized the program to press home their six-point demand. Several hundreds hajj pilgrims and ATAB-HAAB staff took part in the ‘gherao program’ which began at about 11:30 am.
While addressing the program ATAB leaders said a hajj pilgrim needed at least 37 hours to reach Jeddah due to dilapidated condition of Dhaka-Chittagong highway while it took only seven hours to go to Jeddah by a direct hajj flight from the port city.
ATAB leader Kazi Sharaf Uddin said at least 10,000 pilgrims would perform hajj from Chittagong this year.
