Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman on Monday expressed profound shock at the death of renowned economist and agricultural researcher Dr Mahbub Hossain.
“I along with all officials-employees of Bangladesh Bank deeply shocked at the death of chairman of Economics and Social Science Department of BRAC University. The vacuum created in the death of patriotic and dedicated person like him would never be filled-up,” the governor said in a message sent to his family members.
He said as a researcher, educationist Dr Mahbub Hossain was directly involved in formulation of BB’s credit scheme for sharecroppers and implementation of it. “I have lost a guardian in his sudden demise,” the governor added.
Dr. Rahman prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the members of his bereaved family.
Renowned agricultural and development economist Dr Hossain died at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio State early Monday at the age of 71.
He died at 2:45am (BDT). He was admitted at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio State, a press release of BRAC, issued at the demise of the scholar, said on Monday. He was suffering from heart disease for last two years. He went to USA on December 15, 2015 for treatment.
He left behind his wife, two daughters and a son.
