‘Atlanta’ star crashes stage after ‘Silicon Valley’ wins Critics' Choice Award

Last updated: December 12, 2016

New York, US (BBN) – “Silicon Valley” may have won a Critics’ Choice Awards trophy Sunday night, but an “Atlanta” star stole the spotlight.
After “Silicon Valley” was announced as the winner of the Best Comedy Series category, “Atlanta” actor Keith Stanfield crashed the stage and gave a quick acceptance speech, reports Entertainment Weekly.
“I wanna thank everybody for honoring us in this way,” Stanfield said into the microphone. “We worked very hard on “Silicon Valley”, and here we are. Thank you,” said Keith Stanfield.
He quickly exited the stage, and “Silicon Valley” executive producer Tom Lassally seemed to take the intrusion in stride. “Unfortunately, Alec Berg was sick tonight, so he and I,” he said, gesturing to Stanfield, “are both substitutions.”
It’s the second time the HBO comedy has won the category; “Silicon Valley” took the trophy in 2015.
Starring Zach Woods as Jared, the show satirizes startup culture in the California tech bubble.
The third season saw the Pied Piper team - including group manager and team cheerleader Jared, as well as the startup’s software mastermind Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) - struggle to work alongside a new CEO and find enough users to maintain the burgeoning business.
The series also features Martin Starr as Gilfoyle, Kumail Nanjiani as Dinesh, Josh Brener as Big Head, and Critics’ Choice Awards host TJ Miller as Aviato founder Erlich Bachman. “Silicon Valley” won over FX’s “Atlanta,” Amazon’s “Fleabag” , “ABC’s Black-ish,” “ABC’s Modern Family,” “Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and HBO’s “Veep.”
Earlier in the evening, Donald Glover took home the award for Best Comedy Actor for his role in “Atlanta.”
