Australia sent back all the batsmen of New Zealand in pavilion in 45 overs.
McCullum was removed for zero, Guptill for 15, Kane for 12, Taylor for 40, Elliot for 83, Anderson for zero, Ronchi for zero, Vettori for 9, Southee for 11, Henry for zero and Boult for zero.

Prior to the match, New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first against Australia in the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
