Australian buyers urged to visit Bangladesh’s RMG factories

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Commerce Minister of Bangladesh Tofail Ahmed has urged the Australian buyers to visit the readymade garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh instead of paying heed to any propaganda.

"The government has taken all kinds of necessary measures to ensure working friendly atmosphere after the unexpected Rana Plaza tragedy environment of RMG factories such as building safety, fire safety, wage hike and health safety of labourers has been developed sharply," the minister on Wednesday.
He was addressing a joint forum at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Australia. School of Management of RMIT University, Centre for Sustainable Organization and Works, European Union Centre, Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra and BGMEA jointly organized the forum.

Alleging that a vested quarter is trying to circulate propaganda against the RMG sector of Bangladesh, Tofail hoped the Government of Australia and businessmen would realize aspect and abstain to be motivated by it.

Bangladeshi High Commissioner Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, BGMEA President Atikul Islam, RMIT University School of Management Pro-vice chancellor Geof Stocks and K-Mart CEO Yan Belly also spoke on the occasion. Buyers, users of Bangladeshi products, politicians, business leaders and NGO representatives also took part.

In the opening session, two workshops were held where the facilities of the investment to RMG industry, necessary cooperation, labour law, work environment, fire safety, labourer health and work efficiency were discussed elaborately.
