Tiandong, China (BBN)-The month-old baby boy was found buried in woods in China after a woman heard his muted cries and is now recovering in hospital.
The month-old baby is thought to have been buried in a cardboard box under piles of earth for eight days, reports Mirror.co.uk.
He is now recovering in hospital after being found in a remote area outside Tiandong County in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Chinese state media reports Lu Fenglian heard muffled cries while collecting herbs and ran into a nearby Buddhist temple to seek help.
The monk, Zhao Shimin then called police who began digging up the earth and discovered the baby lying in a cardboard box wrapped in blankets.
The baby is now said to be in a stable condition in hospital.
Medics believe the baby, who was buried around five centimetres underground, may have been kept alive due to moisture seeping through the cardboard box.
It is understood the baby was born with a cleft lip and his parents have now been taken into police custody.
The child was taken to hospital in a serious condition but is now said to be stable.
