Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Bangladesh government has asked the apparel makers to clear the festival allowances of their workers by September 20 ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims.
State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu made the revelation after a meeting with the members of “Crisis Management Committee” at his Dhaka office Tuesday afternoon.
The apparel owners were also asked to pay 15 days' salary of the on-going month.
The minister made the order so that no untoward incident could brew centring the payment of salary and festival allowances and the workers could celebrate the Eid smoothly after getting timely wages and bonus.
Representatives from Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMEA) were also present at the meeting.
In response, the BGMEA and the BKMEA delegation and representatives from several factories have assured that their workers would be paid in due time.
The three-day Eid holidays will begin from September 24 and Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on September 25.
