Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The Cabinet Purchase Committee of Bangladesh government on Wednesday approved a US$ 12.650 billion contract with Russia to build 2400MW Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in the country’s northern Pabna district.

The approval came at a meeting of the cabinet body with Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in the chair.

The committee gave its nod to start full-scale work to build the country's biggest nuclear power plant, officials said.

Russia's state-owned Rosatom signed the billion-dollar contract with Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission with an aim to build the plant using a new generation reactor having a lifespan of 60 years.
