Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Cabinet Purchase Committee has approved an Indian sponsor's offer to implement the Sirajganj 300-450 MW dual-fuel power plant project as an independent power producer (IPP).
As per their proposal, the India's Haryana-based LANCO Intratech Limited will implement the project on build-own-operate (BOO) basis as a dual-fuel plant with gas-fired capacity of 367.4 MW and with diesel-fired (HSD) capacity of 304 MW.
LANCO's proposal came up in the Purchase body's meeting as a single responsive bidder in absence of any other bidder's proposal. Finance Minister AMA Muhith presided over the meeting on Thursday.
Officials said this is the ever highest capacity power plant deal, which an Indian private power company obtained.
The government will purchase electricity for 22 years from the plant at 3.99 US cents (equivalent to BDT 3.19) per kilowatt hour (each unit) when it will run by natural gas.
But the tariff will be 16.9621 US cents per kilowatt hour (each unit price BDT 13.56) when the plant will run by diesel. This will be the largest capacity diesel-fired plant in the country, according to reports.
