Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh government has awarded three more independent power producer (IPP) plants to private entrepreneurs to generate around 300 megawatts (mw) of electricity by November 2012.

The state-run Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) inked three separate deals with two sponsors to build these furnace oil and dual fuel-fired IPP plants in Khulna, Jamalpur and Chittagong.

The Consortium of Mutiara Consolidated Sdn Bhd of Malaysia and Power Pac Holdings of Bangladesh will build Khulna 99.38 mw furnace oil-fired power plant and Jamalpur 94.84 mw dual fuel power plant.

The BPDB will purchase electricity from the Khulna plant at a levelised tariff rate of BDT 6.69 per unit (1 kWh) and from Jamalpur plant at a levelised tariff rate of BDT 6.98 per unit for 15 years.

Another consortium of Bangladesh Confidence Cement Ltd, US-based Rurelec PLC and Bangladeshi Energy Pac Generation Ltd will build Chittagong 108 mw power plant and provide electricity to BPDB at a levelised tariff rate of BDT 7.02 per unit.

BPDB Secretary Md Azizul Islam signed the contracts on behalf of the Board while Power Pac Holdings Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder and Confidence Group’s Managing Director Imran Karim signed the deals on behalf of their respective sides at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka on Thursday.
