Last updated: August 9, 2024

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder resigned from his post citing personal reasons on Friday.

He submitted his resignation letter to the Finance Ministry at 3:00pm on the day, according to sources.

Mr Talukder has not been attending office since former prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 05 in the face of a mass uprising led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Earlier on August 07, six contractual high officials of the central bank including Deputy Governor (DG-1) Kazi Sayedur Rahman resigned in the face of the demonstrations carried out by the officials and employees of the central bank.

The demonstrators claimed that two other DGs – Md Khurshid Alam and Dr Md Habibur Rahman – and head of BFIU Masud Biswas agreed to submit their resignations shortly while Policy Advisor of the BB Abu Farah Md Nasser is seen left the office amid the demonstration.

On the other hand, Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder and Md Khurshid Alam did not turn up to the office on the day.

Another DG Nurun Nahar will continue home office until the new interim government is formed and appointed one to take the helm of the central bank, the protestors claimed.
