Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The central bank of Bangladesh sold US$45 million more to three commercial banks directly on Monday to meet the growing demand for the greenback, officials said

The banks are Jantat Bank Limited, Sonali Bank Limited and Southeast Bank Limited.

“The central bank has sold the US dollars to the banks to settle their import payment obligations,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told BBN.

He also said the BB will provide such foreign currency support to the banks continuously in line with the market requirement.

According to the market operators, the US dollar was quoted at BDT 77.72 on the inter-bank foreign-exchange market on the day against BDT 77.70 of the previous working day.

On Wednesday last, the central bank also sold $15 million to the banks on the same ground.
