Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank of Bangladesh is going to hire a general manager (GM) on contractual basis for strengthening functions of its Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), officials said.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the central bank board of directors, held in its headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday with Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman in the chair.
“Our board has agreed to outsource a GM on contractual basis for BFIU, considering its technical activities,” SK Sur Chowdhury, deputy governor of the BB, told BBN in Dhaka after the meeting.
The deputy governor also said the central bank will publish advertisement in newspapers for recruiting the GM.
“Actually, the government as well as the central bank wants to strengthen BFIU in line with the global standard by hiring an efficient GM,” another BB top official said while explaining the main objectives of the BB’s latest move.
He also said the BFIU, a national agency, has been working for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing on the basis of the existing Money Laundering Provision rules and regulations. “We’re providing all supports to run BFIU on behalf of the government.”
