Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The government has barred export of green chili, eggplant, onion and garlic to ensure smooth supply of these essentials in the market during the holy month of Ramadan.
“The export ban will be there until August 31 this year,” a commerce ministry official said in Dhaka on Monday.
The government has taken the decision as the demand for these essentials rises sharply during Ramadan.
Meanwhile, the central bank has advised the commercial banks to facilitate importers for opening of letters of credit (LCs) for edible oil and gram imports, a central bank official said.
The Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country’s central bank, earlier sent a letter in this connection and advised the chief executives of all 47 scheduled banks for taking necessary measures to raise the import orders for two essential items.
“We’ve taken the latest move to ensure smooth supply of the essential items before and during the holy Ramadan,” the BB official said, adding that the price level of essential items will be stable if the supply of those remains smooth.
