Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) has been selected as a member of Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade (ARTNeT), a regional network of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

The BTC Chairman Mujibur Rahman has been nominated as the focal point of Bangladesh Chapter of the ARTNeT, an official statement said in Dhaka on Monday.

It is expected that the membership would help Bangladesh to take time befitting steps getting updated about the trends and courses of the world trade.

In April 2004, developing countries in Asia and the Pacific expressed support for the establishment of a research network on trade to equip the region with a mechanism for enhancing the capacity of research institutions.

This led to the creation of the Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade (ARTNeT), supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC),Canada.

ARTNeT aims at increasing the amount of quality and relevant trade researches in the region harnessing the research capacity already available and developing additional capacity through regional team research projects, enhancing research dissemination mechanisms, increasing interactions between policymakers and researchers, and specifying capacity building activities catering research institutions.
