Last updated: November 10, 2008

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The government has reduced the bandwidth charges up to 60 per cent with effect from December 1 aiming to reach internal services particularly in the country’s rural areas.

The bandwidth charges have been reduced for the second time in five months’ time to provide internet services in the country’s remote areas, the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said in a press statement on Monday.

“It’s necessary to provide internet services in rural areas to alleviate poverty by accelerating development activities. The reduced bandwidth charges will facilitate the use of internet and broadband penetration,” BTRC Chairman Major General (retired) Manzurul Alam said in the press statement.
