Bangladesh elected member of FAO body

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh has been elected member of the Program Committee of the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an official press statement said in Dhaka on Monday.

Bangladesh candidate Sultana Afroze who is Bangladesh’s alternative permanent representative to the FAO, scored the highest 33 votes while Japan and Malaysia the two other candidates from the Asia and Pacific Region got 32 and 26 votes respectively.

The election was held at the 138th FAO Council in Rome, Italy on Wednesday, according to the statement.

The 11-member Program Committee is a two-year term governing body of FAO which assist the Council to carry out the duties in the development and implementation of the FAO program activities.
