Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Bangladesh’s overall export increased by 5.15 per cent in February despite the ongoing political unrest, officials said.

The export earnings rose to $2.51 billion in February 2015 from $2.39 billion in the same period of the last year, according to official figures.

The figures show a positive trend as the country is receiving payments for goods particularly apparel products that were shipped earlier.

However, exporters and expert feared that the export would face a setback in the near future if the political turmoil continues.

Garment makers have already demanded fiscal and policy support from the government, as production was hampered by the unrest.

Bangladesh earned $20.31 billion from exports during the July-February period of the fiscal year (FY) 2014-15 against $19.83 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, according to the export promotion bureau (EPB) data.
