Bangladesh exports to South Asia up by 9.5 percent in FY10

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The country’s export to South Asian nations increased by 9.5 per cent to $420.55 million in the fiscal year 2009-10 (FY10) compared to previous fiscal year.

Merchandise exports to the region rose by nearly $40 million in FY10. The figures were $ 383.96 million in FY 2008-2009, according to the state-run Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) statistics.

Bangladesh’s exports to the regional markets accounted for only 2.59 percent of its total exports.

The data showed export to India was $ 304.63 million, which was 276.58 million in last fiscal year.

Bangladesh exported goods worth $ 77.67 million to Pakistan, and $ 23.74 million to Sri-Lanka during the period.

In Nepal, the country's exports amounted to $ 8.79 million while $ 2.74 million found its way into Maldives.

Shipment was $ 2.74 million to Afghanistan and $ 2.24 million to Bhutan in the FY 2009-2010.
