Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - This year's minimum Fitra has been fixed at BDT 65 while the maximum at BDT 1,980.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Sadkatul Fitra Committee held at the Islamic Foundation conference room at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital Dhaka on Thursday.
Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Moulana Mohammad Mizanur Rahman presided over the meeting, according to a statement.
Members of the National Fitra Fixing Committee Mozaharul Mannan, Dr Muhammad Abdus Salam, Mufti Mohammad Abdullah, Prof Sirajuddin Ahmed, Mufassir Dr Mohammad Abu Saleh Patwari, Mufti Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan were, among others, attended the meeting.
Fitra has been fixed in accordance with the market price of food items and it can also be given according to the local market prices in a particular area.
It has been fixed taking into account the market prices of wheat or flour, barley, date, raisin or cheese and other food items.
Muslims with minimal affluence are obligated to offer Fitra or charity gift to the poor ahead of the greatest Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
