Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh has welcomed the ongoing socio-political reforms and reconciliation processes that have taken place in Burma, officially known as Myanmar, in recent months. 
A delegation of the Bangladesh Election Commission visited Burma to observe the by-elections held on April 1. 
The Bangladesh Ambassador to Burma also visited some constituencies around Rangoon on the day of election. 
According to reports, the by-elections were held in a free, fair and transparent environment, a foreign ministry announcement said on Thursday.
“As a friendly neighbour firmly committed to democracy, Bangladesh welcomes the results of the by-elections and hopes that it will consolidate the ongoing democratization process in Myanmar,” it noted.
The Burmese Union Election Commission has already announced the winners in the 2012 by-election for the total of 46 seats. The National League for Democracy (NLD) won 43 seats. The United Solidarity and Development Party won one seat. The Shan Nationalities Democratic Park won one seat.
