Bangladesh imposes 25% Regulatory Duty on 75 laxury items

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh has imposed 25 percent Regulatory Duty (RD) on import of 75 luxury products 
 
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued two separate Statutory Regulatory Orders (SROs) on Thursday imposing the duty. The order came into effect from Wednesday.
 
With the imposition of the duty, prices of various imported items, like - refrigerator, air conditioner, CBU motorcycle, fresh fruit, fruit juice, chocolate, wafer, granite, stone, bottled water, sanitary towel, luxury saree, salwar kamij, and lehenga etc will go up.
 
The NBR has imposed the duty to ease pressure on the country's foreign exchange reserve through discouraging import of the products.
 
The country’s foreign exchange reserve rose to US$9.62 billion on Thursday from $9.57 billion of the previous working day, according to the central bank statiticres.
