Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s inflation as measured by consumers’ price index (CPI) eased slightly in the month of April following resumption of political stability in the South Asian country.
 

The rate of inflation dropped by 0.22 percentage point in April 2014 on the point-to-point basis compared to that of the previous month because of the declining prices of both food and non-food items.
 

The general point-to-point inflation rate came down to 7.46 percent in April from 7.48 per cent in the previous month of the current fiscal, according to the state-run Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data, released on Wednesday.
 

"Apart from the stable political situation in the country, the uninterrupted supply chain and its management has helped to bring down the rate of inflation," BBS director general Golam Mostafa Kamal told reporters while releasing the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) at a press conference at BBS headquarters in the capital.
 

The food inflation in April declined by 0.01 percent point from 8.95 percent to 8.96 per cent in the pervious month while the non-food inflation rate also witnessed descending trend and it stood at 5.23 per cent which was 5.26 per cent in March, the BSS data showed.
 

The annual average inflation rate during the period (May, 2013 – April, 2014) stood at 7.48 per cent compared to 6.41 per cent during May 2012 to April, 2013.
