Bangladesh inks $15ml deal with IFAD to improve 'Haor' lives

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Bangladesh government signed a $15 million financing deal with International Fund for Agricultural Development for a project to improve living standards and reduce vulnerability of 94,000 'haor' people in 26 Upazilas.
The project will cover the five Haor basins: Netrokona, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj and Sunamganj districts.
The project is expected to increase rural economic activities, protection against extreme weather events and reduce the risk of crop production.
The project will focus on ensuring enhanced access to fishery resources and conservation of bio-diversity, increasing production, diversification and marketing of crops and livestock produce and ensuring efficient cost effective and equitable use of project resources.
