Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) gained slightly against the US dollar in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Tuesday as the inflow of the foreign currency increased in the market, treasury officials said.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 81.58-BDT 81.80 in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on the day against BDT 81.60-BDT 81.84 of the previous day, according to the central bank statistics.
The exchange rate of the US dollar against the local currency may ease slightly further as disbursement of a US$ 200 million syndicated loan from overseas sources has been started.
“The disbursement of the loan will be completed by the end of this month,” a senior banker, who is close to the syndicated loan arrangement, said, adding that it would help improve supply of the US currency in the market to some extent.
Three foreign commercial banks (FCBs) are mobilizing the loan from the global market for the state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) at 5.25 percent rate of interest.
The call rate ranged between 11.00 per cent and 13.00 per cent on Tuesday against 7.00 per cent and 15.00 per cent of the previous working day, they added.
