Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The much-expected interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus took oath today amid a festive ceremony at Bangabhaban, the official residence of Bangladesh president.

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath to the 17-member body of the new interim government at Darbar Hall in Bangabhaban.

At first, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus took the oath, later, his 16-member advisory body was administered the oaths.

The swearing-in ceremony began by showing respect to the people including students who had lost their lives in the protest that led to the resignation of the prime minister of Bangladesh.

Earlier, the Bangabhaban was bedecked for the swearing-in ceremony of the interim government.

During the 12-minute swearing-in ceremony, heads of three armed forces, prominent leaders of BNP, Jatiya Party and Jamaat; coordinators of the student movement, senior government officials, journalists and a host of people were present.

The interim government took oaths just three-days after the resignation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus along with his 16-member advisory body took the oath at the catastrophic time when the country is undergoing different types of anarchy including violence, burglary and mugging after the ousting of Hasina.
