Bangladesh introduces 'one-stop service centre' for migrant workers

Last updated: August 17, 2010
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The state-run Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training has introduced the long-awaited 'one-stop service centre' on an experimental basis for offering emergency services to migrant workers.
Under this service, a migrant worker can obtain all mandatory clearance from the state-run bureau the same day he or she applies for migration.
Earlier, BMET director general Khurshed Alam Chowdhury in a national workshop in the Dhaka announced that the one-stop service would become reality very soon where migrant workers could get all possible services under one roof.
After the successful completion of this experimental period, a separate office will be set-up for this migrant-friendly service, recruiting fresh but well-trained workforce to operate it, he explained.
Earlier, desperate migrant workers faced difficulties in obtaining all the mandatory clearance from the bureau office in time. Workers often receive necessary employment documents close to the deadline.
