Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-A special tribunal in Dhaka has awarded death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali for his crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

Ali, the third most powerful man of the Al-Badr force – an auxiliary force of Pakistan army – was given the capital punishment in two charges of crimes against humanity.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 pronounced the judgement on Sunday for the offences that the 62-year-old committed during Bangladesh’s War of Independence 42 years back.
With the verdict, the two special tribunals set to deal with the war crime cases have so far delivered 11 judgement.

Ali was found guilty of 10 charges out of total 14, which include killing, abduction, planning, complicity, incitement and active participation.
He was awarded a total of 72-year imprisonment on other charges of abduction, conspiracy and planning.
Ali, a member of Jamaat’s central executive council, played key role in leading Al-Badr force in torturing freedom fighters in Chittagong during the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
