Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the executive body of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), an important environment body under the United Nations Climate Change charter. 
Dr Qazi Khliquzzaman Ahmad, coordinator of Bangladesh Climate Change Negotiation Committee, will represent Bangladesh in the important inter-governmental board. Bangladesh elected as the CDM board member at its recent meeting held in Germany. 
Earlier, Bangladesh was made an alternative member of the board of Green Climate Fund (GCF), Compliance Committee member and Consultative Group of Experts (CGE).
The two percent money that comes from the fund earned by reducing carbon emission under the Kyoto Protocol is being used in different projects in developing countries through the CDM. The 15-member CDM board has taken decision about scrutinizing and financing the projects.
Environment and Forests Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said its a major success for Bangladesh in climate diplomacy as the country has been elected as a member to four international committees or board relating to the climate change.
