Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh has opened inter- bank POS (Point of Sale) transaction through National Switch Payment Bangladesh (NPSB) to facilitate electronic card-based payment.

Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country’s central bank, Governor Dr Atiur Rahman formally launched the inter-bank POS at the central bank headquarters in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday.

Internet banking and mobile banking activities will also be introduced under the NPSB immediately, officials said.

With the introducing of inter-bank POS transaction, the county’s banking sector go one step ahead in electronic inter- bank transaction under NPSB, they added.

Currently, 46 commercial banks out of 56 transect around BDT 120 million each day using the NPSB.

Earlier on December 27, 2012 the BB introduced national payment switch aiming to facilitate economic growth through expansion of business activities across the country.

Under the payment system, clients are allowed to withdraw cash, inquire about their account balance and get mini statements from the ATM booths initially.
