Bangladesh optimistic to contain inflation in 6.2pc

Last updated: June 4, 2015

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Finance Minister AMA Muhith has expressed his hope that overall inflation will come down to 6.2 percent in the next fiscal.

While making the projection, Muhith highlighted some circumstances which impact the inflation.

While expressing the optimism, Muhith highlighted that international oil prices fall, favourable agricultural production, continuous improvement in domestic distribution system and impact of restrained monetary policy will help the inflation to slide further down.

“Budget deficit will be contained within 5 percent of GDP as in the past,” Muhith said while delivering his budget speech in the national Parliament in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.

“Taking all these into account, we are setting inflation target at 6.2 percent for the fiscal year 2015-16,” the minister said.
