Bangladesh PM greets Modi

Last updated: May 16, 2014

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday greeted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as his party is on course of a landslide victory in the Indian national election.

PM’s special assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told media that the prime minister congratulated the Hindu nationalist leader as his party is set to return to power with a landslide victory.

Preliminary results showed the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party captured a commanding lead for at least 272 seats in the lower house of Parliament, the majority needed to create a government without forming a coalition with smaller parties.

Meanwhile, the Congress has accepted that it has been trounced by the opposition BJP in the national election, but predictably, the party offered cover to frontman Rahul Gandhi, claiming the blame is "collective.”
