Last updated: May 22, 2014

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-After expressing her satisfaction over the GDP growth and per capita income rise, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attributed the achievements to sincere efforts of all in their respective fields.

The PM made the remark a day after the planning ministry of Bangladesh revealed that the GDP growth rate of the country in the current fiscal year reached 6.12 percent while the per capita income increased to $ 1,190 from $ 1044.

The latest figure on GDP growth rate is higher than Bangladesh Bank’s projection of around 6 percent, the World Bank’s 5.7 percent, ADB’s 5.6 percent and International Monetary Fund’s 6 percent.

“Despite various obstacles, our ADP implementation rate is satisfactory while we’ve been able to increase our per capita income alongside maintaining the GDP growth. This means our economic advancement is continuing… these achievements were possible because all in their respective fields worked sincerely,” she said.

Hasina said this while addressing the officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock as well as its subordinate bodies at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

This was Hasina’s first visit to the ministry after forming the government for the 2nd successive term.

The PM also expressed her firm resolve to turn Bangladesh into a prosperous mid-income country by 2021.
